    Notes:

    Nancy is buried next to her father, John Harmison, her sister, Mary Harmison, her cousin Margaret "Mary" Smith and her aunt, Catherine Harmison Smith. Her gravestone indicates she was "wife of J. Thomas".

    According to family notes, Nancy Harmison's children, James & Julia, were raised by the sister of their father, John D. Thomas, following Nancy's death.

    Nancy married John D. Thomas on 28 May 1846 in White County, Indiana. John was born on 22 May 1820 in Montgomery County, Ohio; died on 20 Feb 1878. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    to Abner Barrett and Mary Pemberton Barrett in 1840, Fulton, IN

    John Harmison wed Isaac's wife, Eunice "Emma" Barrett's sister, Esther "Hettie" Barrett.

    John Harmison is buried at Clark County Cemetery, located at the corner of County Rd. 775 E. and 1050 N.; graves, S.W. Corner; John, Nancy, and Mary (dau of J.&E.) died 1848, age 17.

    John's tombstone is engraved: "Eldor" John Harmison was born August 6, 1810, died November 12, 1857, aged 47 yrs. 2 mos. 6 days. "Sincere Affectionate and Kind/As a husband, father, friend/Trusting in Christ to God resigned/upright in life an d precious end".

    Wife, Esther Barrett Harmison's obituary states that her husband was "the late Reverand Harmison".

    Notes:

    Rockfield, IN, IOOF Cemetery where Esther Barrett Harmison is buried in row 8, on son, Isaac W. Harmison's lot; along with Isaac W. Harmison and his dau. Luella Harmison, Maude B. Harmison and Nellie R. Harmison. There is a Harmison with headsto ne reading J.E. W. Harmison no dates given in row 9 - who is he??? This is next to the Stiger lot.

    Moved to Carroll County, Indiana following John's death and was in the 1870 Census of Carroll, Indiana.

  1. 4.  Samuel Harmison, Sr. was born about 1776 in Berkley, Virginia (son of James Harmison and Mary); died on 2 Mar 1841 in White County, Indiana; was buried in Prob. Bedford Cemetery, White, Indiana.

    Notes:

    The property owned by Samuel at the time of his death was located along McKillup Creek, White County, Indiana and was sold to a William Sill by Samuel's son, John, executor of his estate, following Samuel's death.

    Samuel is most probably buried at the Bedford Cemetery which is located near his former property in Monon Township, White, Indiana.

    Samuel Harmison opened a blacksmith shop in Door Village, southwest of LaPorte, Indiana in Scipio township in 1833 according to "LaPorte History" by McDonald.

    Samuel Harmison, Sr. and wife, Nancy Arnold, were both illiterate and signed documents with an "X".

    Served in the War of 1812.

    Helped build the stockade in Door Village, LaPorte, Indiana, 1832 during Blackhawk War scare.

    Voted in LaPorte, Indiana, 1832.

    1833, Heirs to estate of James Harmison: Elijah, Samuel, James, William, and Jacob Miller and Elizabeth his wife, together with Moses and Mary.

    Janaury 28, 1833; "James Harmison's Heirs Vs. Moses Harmison". Final decree, Monday, the 22nd day of December, 1834; Land Causes Book, #1, page 27. Orators, Elijah Harmison, Samuel Harmison, James Harmison, William Harmison, and Jacob Mille r and Elizabeth, his wife together with Moses and Mary Harmison, defendants hereafter named are the children and heirs of James Harmison, Late of Morgan County and that the said James Harmison is deemed to have died intestate, as a paper purport ing to be his will was rejected as such by this Court, when it was presented for probate.....Your orators further aver that at the time of the decease of the said James Harmison, the aforesaid Moses and Mary Harmison resided with him and have si nce kept in their possession the before mentioned lands, and still so hold them. It is further shown that the said Moses Harmison has committed, and still is committing destructive waste on the said lands by filling and disposing of the best o f the timber to the injury of the other heirs and copareenois; and that lately, he has sold or contracted to sell to a certain John Dixon a great number of timber trees off the said land; and that the said Dixon is engaged in cutting and hewin g the said timber trees....."     23, January, 1801: "I have surveyed for James Harmison, assignee of James Welch, John Robinson, and Alexander Cooper, a tract of land on bank of Potomac and bounded as follows: In line of James Fisher, containing 15 acres." By James M. Wheat , recorded by James Maxwell, S.C.C.; Cambell Harmonson, James Harmison, Sr. and James Harmison, Jr.
