This is the Regimental Colors of the Third Virginia Detachment. William Rhodes fought under this flag at the Battle of the Waxhaws, SC, during the American Revolutionary War on May 29, 1780. In the massacre that followed, he was bayoneted twice in the abdomen and left for dead, but somehow survive.
