    MILITARY-REVOLUTIONARY WAR: from the pension application of Thomas Leach S8837: some time early in the year 1781, I being then under sixteen years of age, left my Fathers House in Farquier [sic: Fauquier] County Va. and entered the service of the U. S in the Virginia Militia under Capt. John Obannon, who marched us to Williamsburg Va. after we arrived at Williamsburg Capt. Obannon was promoted to a Major, and one James Foley took the command of our Company in Obannons stead. We remained there about five weeks and were driven out by the Brittish [20 Apr 1781], I and we retreated through the Country to Richmond where we were reinforced (by Gen. Anthony Wayne, who joined Gen. Lafayette 10 Junl, and in our turn followed the Brittish to Little York, and there besieged them 19 days [sic: 28 Sep - 19 Oct 19 Oct 1781] when they surrendered. I was then detached to the part of the Army, that took charge of the prisoners and marched them from York to the Winchester Barricks 4 miles Westward of Winchester Va. And I was there discharged.     THE O'BANNON-O'BANION FAMILY
    John O'Bannon, son of Brien Boru O'Banon, by his lawful wife, name unknown. He was born about 1710 in Salem, Fauquier County, Virginia. He died in 1773 in Salem and his will was probated 28 March 1774. (Fauquier County, Virginia Will Book 1. 2). He married Sarah Barbee, born about 1714; a daughter of Thomas and Mary Barbee of Stafford County, Virginia. A few words about the Barbee Family:
    is not known who the first Barbee to Virginia was, but in the book, "Huguenot Emigration to Virginia, by Brock, pg. 29-31, in the rolls of passengers of the ship, Le Navire Memmi le Masseous pour alley Virginia is: Claude Barbie and his wife,osengers. His wife is named in several articles as Amy. They were supposed to have settled in Manakin Township (Goochland County, Virginia). More research is needed. The first known Barbee was Andrew Barbee who lived in Stafford County, Virgini a. The first reference in that county's reference book was: A John Waugh sold Andrew Barbee of that county, three hundred acres of land being part of a greater tract laid out by a Capt. Brent. No date was given but it must have been in the lat e 1600's. There is another deed of gift dated 9 April 1700, "I George Mason of the County of Stafford of the Colony of Virginia.... to Thomas and Mary Barbee, son and daughter of the late Andrew Barbee .... two hundred acres lying upon Auquikoo k Run in Stafford County Andrew Barbee of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia was deceased before 1699 and was married to Sarah, last name unknown. In 1699, Sarah married secondly, Thomas James, son of John James. The widow of Andrew B arbee, Stafford County, Virginia (Will Book 2, p. 150-1699-1709), and inventory of Andrew Barbey (Barbee) by Thos. James, who married the widow of Barbey. Inventory made 11 Sept. 1699. Thomas ("T" his mark); Sarah ("E" her mark) James. Above th e names of Thomas and Sarah were the "T" and "E"; perhaps her name was actually Elizabeth Sarah. On 12 November 1702. Came Thomas James and Sarah and Received inventory of Andrew Barbey's estate given to the orphans of Barbee. Issue:
    1.Mary Barbee, untraced.
    0.Thomas Barbee, died 1748 in Stafford County, Virginia. Gift of land to these children by Geo. Mason (2nd or 3rd) dated April 9, 1700. He married Mary. Issue:
    a.Sarah Barbee, born about 1714 married John O'Bannon.
    b.Andrew Barbee, born about 1718.

    In Name of God Amen I John Foley of the Parish of Overwharton in the
    County of Stafford being in low state of health, but of a sound and
    prefect memory,do make and ordain this my last will and Testament.
    IMPRIMIS I recommend my soul to almighty GOD that gave it,and my body to
    the grave...As to my Worldly estate.. I give and bequeath as follows.
    ITEM..I give and bequeath to Abraham Pool, Son of my wife Sarah four
    hundred aces of land lying in Prince William County and upon the run
    commoly known by the name of Persimon Run, being half of eight hundred
    acres bought of Elizabeth White..and my desire that the said Abraham
    shall make his choise of the whole part for his four hundred acres
    provided he takes it in one place... and if Abraham shall die before he
    comes to the years of Maturity then the said four hundred of land shall
    be equally divided between my two Grandsons John Foley, son of my son
    John Foley and James Foley son of my son James Foley.
    ITEM I give and bequeth to my Grandson John Foley, sone of my son James
    Foley the remainder part of the above mention land.
    ITEM I give and bequeth to my son James Foley all my land belonging to
    me on the Pignut Ridge, to him and his heirs.
    ITEM I give and bequeth all the rest of my Estate to my dear and loving
    wife Sarah and her son Abraham Pool and my dear and loving Children John
    Foley, and my son James Foley and my Daughter Katherine Stuart to be
    equally didvided amongst. But, if Abraham Poole should die without issue,
    then his part of the dividison shall fall to the heirs of William
    McCarty, and I appoint my dear and loving Wife Sarah Foley, and my son
    John Foley and my son James Foley Execurors of mu last Will and

    In the name of God, Amen, I, Bryan Boru O'Bannon of Parish of Hamilton and county of Faquier, State of Virginia, being sick and weak of body but of perfect sense and memory, thanks be to Almighty God, and calling to mind the uncertainty of thi s present life, and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testement in manner and form following:

    First, I commend my soul to Almighty God who gave it, nothing doubting but to recieve the same at the resurrection of the Just, my body I recommend to the earth to recieve a Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter mentione d. And as for my wordly estate, which it has pleased Almighty God to bless me with, I give and dispose of as follows:

    I give and bequeath to my beloved son, John O'Bannon the plantation of lands on which he now lives, containing two hundred and twelve acres more or less, to him and his heirs forever. I further give to my son John my negro woman Judy, and her fu ture increase; and after the death of my son John and his wife Sarah, I give the said negro, if living, with her said increase, to my grand-daughter Sarah, daughter of said John, and her heirs forever. And my will is that the said Judy shall, af ter my decease, be totally exempted from laboring without of doors during her natural life. I likewise give to my aforesaid son John my still unbroken horse.

    Item. I give and bequeath to my son William O'Bannon the plantation of lands whereon he now lives, containing two hundred and twelve acres more or less, to him and his heirs forever.

    Item. I give and bequeath to my son Samuel O'Bannon, my plantations and lands in King George county, containing three hundred acres more or less, to him and his heirs forever. I further give to my son Samuel 100 pounds, in current money, and al l my wearing apparel.

    Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter, Elizabeth Ambrose, sixty pounds, surrent money, to her and her heirs forever.

    Item.I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Miller 100 pounds, current money

    I give to my grandson, Thomas O'Bannon, son of John the plantation whereon I now live, to include two hundred and twenty acres, this side of Broad Run to him my said grandson and his heirs forever.

    I give to my grandson William O'Bannon, son of my son William, the remaining part of the tract I now live on, lying chiefly on the north side of Broad Run to my said grandson and his heris forever.

    I give to my grandson Bryan O'Bannon, son of my son John, one negro girl called Lucy

    I give to my grandson Bryan O'Bannon, son of my son William, one negro girl called Cate.

    I give to each of my grandchildren, male and female, being twenty-seven in number, the sum of ten pounds, current money, each to be paid by my Executors at the day of their marraige or as they come of age.

    I give to Aaron Johnston and Francis Johnston, children of Margaret Johnston, my plantation and lands in Frederick County, containing two hundred and fifty seven acres, to be equally divided between them. And if either of them die before they co me of age or marry, I give the part of his or her so dying to the survivor and their heirs forever, and my will is that the rents or profits from the said lands be yearly laid out for education and maintenance of the said children. And furthe r I direct and appoint my son-in-law, Jacob Hite and my granddaughter Elizabeth Hite, to have the care and management of the said children until they come of age, and in case they should die without issue, then I give the aforementioned land t o my grandson, Bryan O'Bannon, son of my son John O'Bannon and his heirs forever.

    I likewise give to the said Aaron Johnston one negro girl named Hannah, with her furture increase to him and his heirs forever and in case he should die without issue, then the said mentioned negro to go or decend according to the aforementione d land.

    I give to the forementioned Francis Johnston five hundred pounds of Tobacco to be yearly paid to Margaret Johnston, mother of the foresaid Francis, for the support and maintenance of the said Francis during the space of four years.

    It is my will and desire that my negros and all of my personal estate(except those negroes formerly given to my children and those herein bequeathed and after appraised) may be sold and the money arising therefrom be divided equally between my s ons and grandsons.

    I hereby nominate and appoint my loving sons, John and William O'Bannon and my son-in-law Jacob Hite, my whole and sole Executors of this my last will and testament. And I do hereby Revoke, Disannul and make vooid all former wills by me made.

    In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 4th day of September, 1760.

    John O'Bannon, son of Brien Boru O'Banon, by his lawful wife, name unknown. He was born about 1710 in Salem, Fauquier County, Virginia. He died in 1773 in Salem and his will was probated 28 March 1774. (Fauquier County, Virginia Will Book 1. 2). He married Sarah Barbee, born about 1714; a daughter of Thomas and Mary Barbee of Stafford County, Virginia. A few words about the Barbee Family:
    is not known who the first Barbee to Virginia was, but in the book, "Huguenot Emigration to Virginia, by Brock, pg. 29-31, in the rolls of passengers of the ship, Le Navire Memmi le Masseous pour alley Virginia is: Claude Barbie and his wife,osengers. His wife is named in several articles as Amy. They were supposed to have settled in Manakin Township (Goochland County, Virginia). More research is needed. The first known Barbee was Andrew Barbee who lived in Stafford County, Virgini a. The first reference in that county's reference book was: A John Waugh sold Andrew Barbee of that county, three hundred acres of land being part of a greater tract laid out by a Capt. Brent. No date was given but it must have been in the lat e 1600's. There is another deed of gift dated 9 April 1700, "I George Mason of the County of Stafford of the Colony of Virginia.... to Thomas and Mary Barbee, son and daughter of the late Andrew Barbee .... two hundred acres lying upon Auquikoo k Run in Stafford County Andrew Barbee of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia was deceased before 1699 and was married to Sarah, last name unknown. In 1699, Sarah married secondly, Thomas James, son of John James. The widow of Andrew B arbee, Stafford County, Virginia (Will Book 2, p. 150-1699-1709), and inventory of Andrew Barbey (Barbee) by Thos. James, who married the widow of Barbey. Inventory made 11 Sept. 1699. Thomas ("T" his mark); Sarah ("E" her mark) James. Above th e names of Thomas and Sarah were the "T" and "E"; perhaps her name was actually Elizabeth Sarah. On 12 November 1702. Came Thomas James and Sarah and Received inventory of Andrew Barbey's estate given to the orphans of Barbee. Issue:
    1.Mary Barbee, untraced.
    0.Thomas Barbee, died 1748 in Stafford County, Virginia. Gift of land to these children by Geo. Mason (2nd or 3rd) dated April 9, 1700. He married Mary. Issue:
