242 | The entry in the society page of the Examiner reads as follows: The wedding of Miss Mabel Sowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sowers, and Gorden Graham, son of S. H. Graham, was solemnized Sunday at 8:45a.m. at the Church of Christ in Rushylvania. Rev. Herbert Graham, of Rushsylvania, a brother of the groom was the officiating minister. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Weeks, who reside south of Bellefontaine, attended the couple. Preceding the ceremony, Miss Martha Hughes, of Rushsylvania, played several organ elections, "This Day," "Oh Perfect Love," and the Lohengrin Wedding March. As the chords of the triumphal wedding march were struck the bride and Mrs. Weeks walke d toward the altar from one side of the church and at the same time the groom and Mr. Weeks approached the altar by another aisle. The bride was lovely in a light blue street-length costume. Her accessories were in white. Her corsage bouquet was of pink roses, sweet peas, and a gardenia. Only the members of the two families and a few close friends were present. The bride has been the teacher of commercial work at the New Madison school until recently. The groom is associated with the Hillcrest Dairy, east of Bellefontaine. Mr. Graham and his bride left by motor soon after the ceremony on a honeymoon trip to the Smoky Mountains. Upon return they will reside on a farm east of this city. | Family: Gorden Wilson Graham / Mabel Florence Sowers (F1221)

243 | The following information is found in "MICHAEL STOCKER AND THEIR DESCENDANTS" by Charles L. Stocker and Jennie Stewart: "Andreas Stocker, probably the fifth son of Michael, the Swiss imigrant of 1731, and Margaret, his wife, was "born in Perk Gaunty" according to the inscription on the stone in the old Forks Cemetery, often called the Stocker Burying Ground, at Stockertown, in Northampton County, Pa. It is likely that this was in Upper Milford Twp., Bucks County, now in southwesterly corner of Lehigh County, where on Sep. 11, 1738 Michael Stocker received a patent for 150 acres of territorial land under the seal of Thomas Penn." "The tombstone says Andreas died in the eightieth year of his age which would fix his birth in 1743-1744, but an entry in his old family Bible reads: "I, Andreas Stocker, was born on Ascension day in the year 1746." "About 1770-71 Andreas and his brothers Adam and Henry moved northeasterly into the present Northampton County, where the records show that Andreas and Adam acquired in common a tract of 345 acres of land in Bethleham Twp. This Andreas soon thereafter quit-claimed to Adam. Thereafter he acquired a number of parcels in Forks Twp. and became one of the largest land holders in the region." "He was enterprising and constructive in the new community. Tradition has it that before the establishment of a church, services were held in Andreas' barn. He donated a location for the Forks church and cemetery site. I think it almost certain that the old stone mill powered by the waters of Bushkill Creek, whick is still operating to this day, was one of his contributions to his time." "Andreas and his four living brothers were enrolled as soldiers of the Revolution. Andreas' service record as a private in Capt. Jacob Buss' County of the 1st County in the 2nd Battilion of Northampton County, according to the Class roll dated May 22, 1781, appears in Pennsylvania Archives, 5th Series, Vol. 8, p.143; also as of roll made up in the fall of 1782, on p. 201 of Vol. 8, same Series." | Stocker, Andreas (I1443)

Weaver, published by the American Historical Society, Chicago and New York, 1916: "DANIEL SMELTZER is one of the honored citizens of Elkhart County, has given many years of his life to the work of the schoolroom, and is held in grateful remembrance by a host of his former pupils. For a number of years he has had his htu He was born in Olive Township of Elkhart County November 28, 1857. His grandparents, Michael and Susan (Rhodes)Smeltzer were both natives of Pennsylvania and of German origin. John Smeltzer, father of Daniel, was born in Pennsylvania Mar, w up in his native state, and had little schooling and was prepared for life's duties mainly by practical discipline. When quite young he removed to Richland County, Ohio, and from there in 1848 came to Indiana. After a brief residence on sect ion 31 of Allen township he bought the southwest quarter of section 35, land that is now included in the Town of Wakarusa. Thus he was among the pioneers of that community. His enterprise led to the establishment of a sawmill, and that mill sa wed up great quantifies of the heavy native timber which was found in that region until comparatively recent years. The mill is still owned and operated by Calvin Werner. John Smeltzer was married while living in Ohio to Leah Lechlitner, daught er of Anthony Lechlitner. To their union were born eleven children: Susan, Henry, Anthony, Michael, Catherine, Joseph, Libbie, Daniel, Simon, John and Mary. Daniel Smeltzer has some idea by recollection and personal experience of what the western part of Elkhart County was like before the passing of pioneer conditions. He was trained to hard work on the farm, and his advantages in the way of so winter terms. As soon as opportunity afforded he began working for his board in order to attend school in Wakarusa. With the enlargement of his horizon of knowledge, he fitted himself for places of responsibility, and eventually wa s made cashier in the Exchange Bank of Wakarusa. In the meantime and afterwards he taught school both in the country and at Wakarusa, and kept up his own education by attending the Normals in Goshen. For a number of years Mr. Smeltzer has served as a justice of the peace, and is an ardent republican in politics. On January 26, 1879, he married Ida M. Lammond who was born in Ohio May 25, 1862, a daughter of Courtland and Nancy (Grove) Lily came from Ohio and settled at Wakarusa, where they lived until 1887, and then moved to Michigan, settling at Lawton in Van Buren County.
