      Death Of A Valued Citizen

"Again it becomes our sad duty to record the death of a respected, upright and influential citizen of this community. On Thursday afternoon, January 23, 1890, Isaac Wesley Harmison, residing about two miles northwest of Walkerton, in a localit y known as the Island, gave up this life for the uncertainties of the beyond. He was born on the Island, November 22, 1843, and was aged 47 years, 2 months and 1 day at the time of his demise. Deceased was married to Mahala Sneathen, March 20 , 1866, by elder Osborn of the U.B. church, the fruits of which marriage were two children, both of which are living. Mr. and Mrs. Harmison took possession of the home at which he died in the year 1867, where he continued an honest tiller of th e soil up to within a few days of his death. He leaves a wife, a son, an aged mother, three sisters and two brothers to mourn his loss. His illness was violent and of short duration, having eaten his dinner at the table on Tuesday before dyin g on Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Harmison united with the M.E. church in the year 1876, under the pastoral harge of Rev. G.R. Streetor, a former citizen of this place, and never wavered from the faith from that time until his death. He was honorable and upright in all of h is dealings, and if he had an enemy on earth, the writer does not know it. He was buried from the Island church in the Walkerton Cemetery. Rev. Mathews of this place, conducting the services. The family has the heartfelt sympathy of the INDEP ENDENT, as we know they have of this entire community."
