Leaves his estate to his "wife Alice C. Chiles. At her death to be equally divided between his brothers and sisters, W. R. Chiles, Roland Chiles, Coffee Chiles, Phoebe Burgess, Lizzie Trigg, Beauregard Chiles, Fanny Clark, and Oney or Amy(?) Chiles and Willis Chiles."

James married Alice C. Dugger, daughter of William and Cyrena Teresa Wilkes Dugger, on 22 Oct 1883 in Marshall County, Tennessee.
His will is recorded in the Tennessee Probate Court Books 1795-1927, Giles County Wills, 1869-1896, Vol. B, page 433, dated 03 December 1884 and probate 17 December 1884.
