  • Notes
    • In the marriage of Mahala Snethen, granddaughter of Elizabeth Pemberton, to Isaac Wesley Harmison, grandson of Samuel Harmison and Nancy Arnold, the Pemberton line 'crossed' once again with the Harmison family. Said 'crossing' of the family lin es originally occured with the marriage of two of Mary Pemberton Barrett's daughters, Eunice "Emma" Barrett and Esther "Hettie" Barrett to Isaac Harmison and John Harmison. Isaac and John Harmison were the sons of Samuel Harmison and Nancy Arn old. Isaac Wesley Harmison was the son of Isaac and John's brother, Samuel Harmison, Jr.

Mahala and her brother, Isaac Thomas Snethen, ch. Abraham Snethen and Mary Thomas, were raised by their step-father, Jacob Snell and his third wife, Rebecca (Burke) Smith following Mary's death. Rebecca (Burke) Smith was widow to Henry Smith, s on of Catharine Harmison and Samuel Smith.

Obituary, March 23, 1917, Walkerton Independent, Walkerton, St. Joseph, Indiana:

"Mahala Snethen was born September 25, 1848 in Philipsburg, Montgomery County, Ohio and passed away at her home in this place Sunday evening, March 18, 1917, aged 66 years, 5 months and 23 days.

At the age of seven years she came with her parents to this vicinity where she resided up to the time of her death, fifty-nine years.

March 20, 1866 she was married to Wesley Harmison (Isaac Wesley Harmison), who died January 27, 1890. To this union were born two children, William, of this place, and Viola Cripe of Michigan City. March 18, 1902, she was married to Robert Robi son, who died in November of the same year.

Besides her son and daughter, she leaves to mourn one grandson, and a host of relatives and friends. One brother preceded her in death six years ago. In her youth she united with the Methodist Church, which faith she held to the end. She wa s a good neighbor and kind, always ready to help others before herself.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church Thursday, forenoon at ten o'clock, Rev. Hargrave officiating, assisted by Rev. Mitchell. Internment was held at Woodlawn Cemetery."

NOTE: Mahala Snethen Harmison Robison is buried next to her husband, Isaac Wesley Harmison at Woodlawn Cemetery.
