The British Legion charges Virginia Continentals at the Battle of the Waxhaws. Painting by Graham Turner. The battle took place during the American Revolutionary War on May 29, 1780, near Lancaster, South Carolina. During the melee William Rhodes was bayoneted in the abdomen twice, but miraculously survived.
