    Notes:

    Catherine's last name is spelled Hameson in the marital index.

    Catherine is buried next to her brother, John Harmison; and his two daughters, Nancy and Mary Harmison. Catherine's gravestone gives a date of death of 1856; however, evidence is that her husband, Samuel, married a Nancy Barton on August 13, 18 52 in St. Joseph, Indiana so its possible the date of death is wrong.

    Catherine's husband, Samuel Smith, went to Kansas with his second wife in 1870. There were five teams and wagons. Sam's, his son, Martin, John Robinson, Bill Harmison and one other. Later they moved back to Grinnell, Iowa and many stayed ther e. Samuel Smith moved on to South Dakota.

  1. 6.  Samuel Harmison, Sr. was born about 1776 in Berkley, Virginia (son of James Harmison and Mary); died on 2 Mar 1841 in White County, Indiana; was buried in Prob. Bedford Cemetery, White, Indiana.

    Notes:

    The property owned by Samuel at the time of his death was located along McKillup Creek, White County, Indiana and was sold to a William Sill by Samuel's son, John, executor of his estate, following Samuel's death.

    Samuel is most probably buried at the Bedford Cemetery which is located near his former property in Monon Township, White, Indiana.

    Samuel Harmison opened a blacksmith shop in Door Village, southwest of LaPorte, Indiana in Scipio township in 1833 according to "LaPorte History" by McDonald.

    Samuel Harmison, Sr. and wife, Nancy Arnold, were both illiterate and signed documents with an "X".

    Served in the War of 1812.

    Helped build the stockade in Door Village, LaPorte, Indiana, 1832 during Blackhawk War scare.

    Voted in LaPorte, Indiana, 1832.

    Janaury 28, 1833; "James Harmison's Heirs Vs. Moses Harmison". Final decree, Monday, the 22nd day of December, 1834; Land Causes Book, #1, page 27. Orators, Elijah Harmison, Samuel Harmison, James Harmison, William Harmison, and Jacob Mille r and Elizabeth, his wife together with Moses and Mary Harmison, defendants hereafter named are the children and heirs of James Harmison, Late of Morgan County and that the said James Harmison is deemed to have died intestate, as a paper purport ing to be his will was rejected as such by this Court, when it was presented for probate.....Your orators further aver that at the time of the decease of the said James Harmison, the aforesaid Moses and Mary Harmison resided with him and have si nce kept in their possession the before mentioned lands, and still so hold them. It is further shown that the said Moses Harmison has committed, and still is committing destructive waste on the said lands by filling and disposing of the best o f the timber to the injury of the other heirs and copareenois; and that lately, he has sold or contracted to sell to a certain John Dixon a great number of timber trees off the said land; and that the said Dixon is engaged in cutting and hewin g the said timber trees....."
