The land which he purchased was school land, and farming and stock-raising was his voction throughout life." Samuel married Elizabeth Connell on 14 Nov 1842 in White, Indiana. Harmison, Elizabeth was born in Fayette County, Ohio; however, according to her obituary, Elizabeth was born in Darke County, Ohio, November 27, 1822: "She, with her parents, moved to White County (I ndiana) at the age of 11 years....Came directly to LaPorte County where she resided 13 years, then returning to White County and after living there one year returned to LaPorte County to the old farm where she resided 64 years."
