During the melee William Rhodes was bayoneted in the abdomen twice, but miraculously survived.

I was a well planned and executed nighttime attack, a highly trained select group of soldiers. It was a night attack, where the bayonet being the only weapon used by the Americans. In this battle William Rhodes was wounded and promoted Corporal.

This uniform was worn by the 1st Virginia Battalion, known as Posey's Battalion from 1782-1783, during the American Revolution. My family's ancestor William Rhodes, was a Corporal/Sergeant in the unit, from late 1781 to the end of the war, in late 1783.
