- A Civil War veteran of Company D, 73rd Indiana Infantry & Company E, 29th Indiana Infantry.
Michael enlisted August 7, 1862, at Plymouth, Marshall County, Indiana, to serve three years in the 73rd Indiana Infantry. On August 16, 1862, he received $25.00 of his $100.00 enlistment bounty and was mustered into Federal service with Compan y D at South Bend, Indiana. At that time he was listed as a 17 years old, 5'9" tall farmer, with brown hair, black eyes and a dark complexion, born in Boone County, Indiana.
On the muster roll of Nov./Dec., 1862, it was noted that Michael was absent in Convalescent Barracks, Gallatin, Tennessee. On February 1, 1963, he was discharged under a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability, at that location because of phithise s pulmonalis and was not entitled to a pension. On his discharge it was noted that he could be contacted at Argos, Marshall County, Indiana.
After his discharge, Michael returned to his home at Argos, Indiana, and apparently recovered his health, as on July 18, 1863, he enlisted at Plymouth, Indiana, to serve three years as a Private in the 73rd Indiana Infantry. On July 18, 1863, h e was mustered into Federal service with Company D at Indianapolis, Indiana. At that time he was listed as a 19 years old, 5'9" tall farmer, with brown hair, gray eyes and a dark complexion, born in Boone County, Indiana.
On July 1, 1865, Company D of the 73rd Indiana Infantry was mustered out of Federal service at Nashville, Tennessee. On the muster out roll it was noted that Michael was due $75.00 of his enlistment bounty, that no discharge had been furnished , and he was to be retained for unexpired term of his enlistment. On August 31, 1865, he was transferred to Company E of the 29th Indiana Infantry, in accordance with S.O. No. 9, Headquarters Military Division Tennessee at Nashville. On Decembe r 2, 1865, he was mustered out of Federal service with Company E at Marietta, Georgia. It was later determined that no discharge papers were given at the muster out of that organization.

Wisconsin for the sum of eight hundred $800.00 Dollars, the following tracts of land in Barron County, in the state of Wiscofe north west quarter of the south east quarter and the south half of the north east quarter and the south west quarter of the south east quarter of the south west quarter all in section number 23 Township number 33 north of range 11 we st and the same are free from all incumberance whatever except a mortage of seven hyndred and fifty ($750.00) dollars which granted assumes.

His military record said he had gray/black eyes, brown hair, 5' 9" tall and dark comple xion. It also stated he was in Boone County, and a farmer by trade.
