    Notes:

    THE O'BANNON-O'BANION FAMILY
    John O'Bannon, son of Brien Boru O'Banon, by his lawful wife, name unknown. He was born about 1710 in Salem, Fauquier County, Virginia. He died in 1773 in Salem and his will was probated 28 March 1774. (Fauquier County, Virginia Will Book 1. 2). He married Sarah Barbee, born about 1714; a daughter of Thomas and Mary Barbee of Stafford County, Virginia. A few words about the Barbee Family:
    is not known who the first Barbee to Virginia was, but in the book, "Huguenot Emigration to Virginia, by Brock, pg. 29-31, in the rolls of passengers of the ship, Le Navire Memmi le Masseous pour alley Virginia is: Claude Barbie and his wife,osengers. His wife is named in several articles as Amy. They were supposed to have settled in Manakin Township (Goochland County, Virginia). More research is needed. The first known Barbee was Andrew Barbee who lived in Stafford County, Virgini a. The first reference in that county's reference book was: A John Waugh sold Andrew Barbee of that county, three hundred acres of land being part of a greater tract laid out by a Capt. Brent. No date was given but it must have been in the lat e 1600's. There is another deed of gift dated 9 April 1700, "I George Mason of the County of Stafford of the Colony of Virginia.... to Thomas and Mary Barbee, son and daughter of the late Andrew Barbee .... two hundred acres lying upon Auquikoo k Run in Stafford County Andrew Barbee of Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia was deceased before 1699 and was married to Sarah, last name unknown. In 1699, Sarah married secondly, Thomas James, son of John James. The widow of Andrew B arbee, Stafford County, Virginia (Will Book 2, p. 150-1699-1709), and inventory of Andrew Barbey (Barbee) by Thos. James, who married the widow of Barbey. Inventory made 11 Sept. 1699. Thomas ("T" his mark); Sarah ("E" her mark) James. Above th e names of Thomas and Sarah were the "T" and "E"; perhaps her name was actually Elizabeth Sarah. On 12 November 1702. Came Thomas James and Sarah and Received inventory of Andrew Barbey's estate given to the orphans of Barbee. Issue:
    1.Mary Barbee, untraced.
    0.Thomas Barbee, died 1748 in Stafford County, Virginia. Gift of land to these children by Geo. Mason (2nd or 3rd) dated April 9, 1700. He married Mary. Issue:
    a.Sarah Barbee, born about 1714 married John O'Bannon.
    b.Andrew Barbee, born about 1718.

    REVOLUTIONARY WAR: MILITARY

    On 12 December 1806 William made his will which was probated on 27 October 1807. He appointed sons Thomas and Joseph and Presley N. O'Bannon as executors with a special charge to Presley Neville O'Bannon to "Pay every possible attention to his m other and see her righted in every instance."
    The provisions of the will are as follows: Wife Ann..the plantation whereon I now live, and 100 acres of land, a part of the tract I purchased from the Farflingers joining said plantation and George Elgin's land, also 4 negroes, one old Negro we nch named Jim, the waggon and four houses, ten head of choice cattle...all farming utensils and household and kitchen furniture..one of the best beds and furniture except. Son, William..200 acres on the Miami River (Ohio)..son, Presley Neville. . one of the best beds and furniture...son Jesse..equal part with other children of moveable property to be paid them in clothing...son, Alexander..(same as Jesse's).. Land property to be divided equally between my other children that may be
    living at the time of my death, William, Jesse and Alexander are to have not part of the land only as above mentioned. After the death of my wife Ann all the above mentioned property given to her or what there may be remaining thereof is to be e qually divided between my surviving children, Jesse and Alexander excepted and William is to have no part of the land.
    On 24 Oct. 1808, Presley N. O'Bannon came into Court and qualified as an executor. In 1813 543 and 1/2 acres of the estate was divided as follows: Lot No. 1 to John O'bannon, 66 acres: No. 2 to Elizabeth Pepper, 68 acres; No. 3 to Joseph O'Banno n, 66 acres; No. 4 to Bryant O'Bannon, 62 acres; No. 5 to Mason Lawrence, 64 acres; No. 6 to children of Joyce Lawrence (dead by 1813) and had married John Lawrence on 13 March 1786, 62 and 1/2 acres; and No. 7 to George Jeffries, 60 acres. Reco rded in Fauquier County Will Book 6, p.309 (Sundberg and Gott).
    Ann (Neville) O'Bannon died in the year 1824. On 8 Nov. 1824 the Dower Tract on which William O'Bannon deceased lived was divided by Commissioners into lots as follows: Lot No. 1..to Bryant O'Bannon; No 2 to Thomas O'Bannon; No. 3 to Agnes Jeffr ies, wife of George Jefferies; No. 4 to William Utterback, husband of Polly; No. 5 to Joseph O'Bannon; No. 6 to Elizah Pepper, husband of Sally O'bannon; No. 7 to Presley N. O'Bannon; House lot to Mason Lawrence, husband of Nancy O'Bannon (Sundb erg and Gott). The old home of William O'Bannon (he was sometimes referred to as Captain William O'bannon) stood until the early 1950's when it gradually fell to ruin. It is known locally a "The Lawrence Place." After the death of Mrs. Drucill a (Utterback) Russell, a descendant, the property was sold and the cemetery with its ancient boxwoods and stone wall be been neglected, it has become a thicket of briars and honeysuckle.     Notes:

    REVOLUTIONARY WAR: MILITARY: Served in the Revolutionary War. He enlisted at age 16, and participated in the battles of Brandywine & Germantown. He was encamped at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777-1778. He also fought at the battles of Mo nmouth, where he was wounded. During his 2nd term of enlistment, he raised his own company of 100 men, and became a Captain. He served under General Daniel Morgan & Colonel Heath, in the 3rd Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line. He move d to Kentucky in 1780. Benjamin received a war pension in 1832 (pension # S429 Va.); Historical Records of Old Crab Orchard, Lincoln County, Ky.; pg. 103.
