  1. 1.  Moses Rhodes was born in 1725 in Stafford County, Virginia; died on 13 Nov 1769 in Loudoun County, Virginia; was buried in Goose Creek Cemetery, Lincoln, Loudoun County, Virginia.

    Moses Rhodes received a Negro called Mallow from his fathers estate. He married the daughter of William Mead, a Quaker, in Loudon County, Virginia. The Fairfax Monthly Meeting records that Rhodes - Mary, formerly Mead, reported married out of un ity 30-3-1747; she wanted to make satisfaction but her husband objected, so she was dismissed 30-5-1748 and restored 29-4-1758 and her children received on her request. Women's Meeting notes: Mary Rhodes several years past went out in marriage a nd suffered herself to be dismissed, for which she now confesses her great fault and asks to be received with her children. Moses Rhodes was living on William Meads' lands in 1764, when a land grant to Mr. Joseph Hough of Loudon Co, 125 A on Kit toctan Mt on Secolon was described as "Adj Moses Rhodes formerly William Meads, Col John Carlyles, Francis Hagues now Charles Burns."

    His will is dated July 1769, I Moses Rhodas of the county of Loudon and colony of Virginia being very sick and weak in body. As the real estate in land which I now posess is will'd to Mary my dearly beloved wife by her father during the course o f her natural life and after her decease to the heirs of her body I do and with her consent give and bequesth the said estate to my two sons William and John after my wifes decease. My son William shall pay my son Thomas 30 pounds and my son Joh n shall pay my son Joseph 30 pounds as soon as they posses their share of the above land. My five daughters Hannah, Mary, Abigail, Elizabeth, Ann shall have paid to them 5 pounds current money when of age. Wife Mary sole executrix. Proved by aff irmation at the Court for Loudon county 13 Nov 1769. William Mead served as security.

    Notes:

    The Fairfax M.M. reported that Thomas enlisted as a soldier and "left these parts". He was disowned 27 September 1777.

    Thomas Rhodes conveyed his interest in the mead farm, which was willed to him after his mother's death, to his brother, William Rhodes. In the deed conveyance, it stated that both brothers were living in Ohio; Thomas in Hamilton county, and William in Columbine county. William returned to Virginia. Both he and his brother, Joseph, witnessed the will of his uncle, William mead.

    He Was Granted A Certificate To The South River Meeting In Virginia On 23 April 1785.

    JOSEPH RHODES. By deed reciting that all parties were of Bedford County, Va., Robert Mead and Hannah, his wife, on the 4 July 1786, conveyed unto Joseph Rhodes 636 acres of land on the branches of Rock Castle Creek, a branch of Goose Creek ; an d by deed of the 24 Dec. 1805, Joseph Rhodes and Martha, his wife, conveyed unto Thomas Dixon 146 acres on both sides of Richardson's Mill Creek in Bedford County, Va. Our Quaker Friends of ye Olden Time, pp. 88-9, shows that Martha Rhodes was p resent at marriages in 1792-3, at "Goose Creek Meeting House, in Bed-ford County."
