    Obituary notice from the March 2, 1944 Wakarusa Tribune: "Mrs.
    Caroline Pauline Schlemmer, 78 passed away at 8:20 a.m. Wednesday
    morning in the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank
    Grove of this place. She had been in ill health for the past ten
    years, and bedfast since November. She was born July 5, 1865 in
    Posen, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kelm. She came to South
    Bend from Germany when she was 22 years old to the home of her uncle,
    Henry Schultz. She married Jacob Schlemmer Sept. 5 1888 near Bremen,
    where she lived until his death in Sept. 1921. Surviving are five
    children, Mrs.Frank (Pauline) Grove, Mrs. Upton (Susie) Ringle of
    Mishawaka, Mrs. Irvin (Lydia) Bollman of South Bend, Mrs. Sam (Emma)
    Weaver of Bremen, Hilbert M. Schlemmer of near Nappanee, fourteen
    grand-children and 22 great grand-children."

    FREDERICK JOHANN SCHULTZ (1927?)
    Frederick Johann Schultz, eighty-one years old, one of the old and well known
    residents of this community, died at the family home Tuesday evening after an
    illness of a week of complications. He was born June 19, 1846, at
    Regierungs, Berzirg Posen, Germany and was a son of Mathias and Juliana Schultz.
    On January 16, 1872, he was united in marriage with Wilhelmina Arndt in Germany.
    On April 25, 1882 Mr. and Mrs. Schultz and their four children came to America,
    settling in South Bend, where they lived for two and one half years.
    In 1886 they moved to their farm two and one half miles northeast of Bremen
    where they lived until October, 1910. Since that time they have lived in Bremen.
    Mr. Schultz was the father of ten children, seven of who survive with their mother.
    They are Mrs. Julianna Scheminske of South Bend, Martin Schultz of Niles, Michigan,
    Otto Schultz of Waterloo, Iowa, William Schultz and Mrs. Theresa Roth of Bremen
    and Mrs. Bertha Fields and Mrs. Edith Sargent of Elkhart. He is survived also by three
    brothers, Gottlieb and Henry Schultz of South Bend and Stephen Schultz of Hastings,
    Nebraska; twenty-five grandchildren; one niece, Mrs. Caroline Schlemmer,
    of Bremen, and a number of less near relatives and friends.
    Funeral services will be held at the residence Friday afternoon at two
    o'clock and at St. Paul's Lutheran church at 2:30 oclock. Rev. W.T.
    Vogel, pastor of the church, will officiate in the services. Burial will be
    in the Bremen cemetery.

    Obituary Notice Wakarusa Tribune Feb 14, 1968 " Mrs. Pauline Groves,
    78, 111 S. Washington St. Wakarusa, died of complications Friday, Feb.
    9, at her home. She had been ill about a year. Mrs. Groves was born
    in St. Joseph County on Mar. 15 1890. She was married to Frank Groves in
    1905. He preceded her in death in 1959. Survivors are three sons,
    Homer Groves, Elm Road, Bremen; Donald, North Liberty; and Howard of
    Wakarusa Route 1. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, three
    great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Lydia Bollman of South Bend.
    Funeral services were held Monday at the Lienhart Funeral Home at 2
    p.m. with Dr. Ben Strohbehn of the First Christian Church, where she
    was a member, officiating. Burial was in the Bremen Cemetery."

    Obituary of Howard F. Grove:
    Howard F. Grove, 94, of Nappanee, formerly of Bremen passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at LuAnn Nursing Home, Nappanee. He was born October 3, 1916 in Bremen to Frank & Pauline (Schlemmer) Grove. On November 8, 1947 he married Donna Baugher , she preceded him in death in 2001.

    Howard was a retired farmer and truck driver. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dade City, FL where he and his wife lived for 20 years. He enjoyed living in Florida and tending to his orange groves. He later attended Bremen Churc h of the Brethren and he was an avid sports fan.

    Survivors include 2 daughters: Myrna Grove of Elkhart and Elaine (Carl) Rhodes of Middlebury, 1 son Bruce (Pam) Grove of Monticello and 3 granddaughters and 1 great-grandson.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 sister and 2 brothers.

    Funeral service will be held at 7PM on Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen and will be officiated by Rev. Brian Beeks.

    Friends may call from 4PM on Friday until the time of service at the funeral home.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer?s Association.

    U.S. Veteran Jerry Allen Grove, 65, of Bremen, Indiana passed away on March 25, 2011 at his residence. He was born March 9, 1946 in Bremen, Indiana to Homer J. and Verda E. (Lozier) Grove. He married Donna Farrer on April 17, 1971. He attended M adison Twp School until his senior year when he graduated from Bremen High School in 1965 and was a US Army Veteran. He was a member of Horizon Ministries Church in Bremen, life time member and past president of Wyatt Conservation and Coon Hunte rs Club. He was involved in Marshall County 4-H for his entire life; he was on the fair board and was a Swine and Rabbit leader. He enjoyed working for Farrer's Auction Service, watching Bremen and Notre Dame sports and playing fast-pitch softba ll, men's league.

    Survivors include his wife Donna Grove of Bremen, daughter Amy Grove of Bremen, brother Wayne (Carolyn) Grove of Bremen, father and mother-in-law Dean and Lois Farrer, brother-in-law Tony (Diane) Farrer, sister-in-law Bev (Larry) Balsley, sister -in-law Melinda (Bill) Daily all of Bremen, several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Monday, March 28, 2011 at the Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen and will be officiated by Pastor Jim Morse. Burial will take place at a later date.

    Friends may call on Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 2-6 PM at Mishler Funeral Home in Bremen.

    NILES, MICHIGAN - Richard Lee Reed, age 77 years of Niles, Michigan died at 7:36 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana following an extended illness.

    He was born on March 9, 1939 in Mishawaka to Adrian Louis and Beldora May (Bollman) Reed. He graduated from the former Lakeville (Indiana) High School, has lived in this area all of his life, and has been at home in Niles since 1981. He was always employed in auto parts distribution and sales, first at the Studebaker Corporation, and then at the former Freeman-Spicer Studebaker, Mercedes, & Peugeot automobile dealership in South Bend. In retirement, he has been employed at the Michiana Delivery Service in Niles.

    Richard was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Niles where he also served on the finance board, as an elder, and an usher. He maintained a great interest in all things about Studebaker, and volunteered as a tour guide at the Studebaker National Museum in South Bend. He also volunteered at the Berrien County Youth Fair, and at the Niles Senior Center where he provided transportation for veterans to the VA clinics. He enjoyed traveling, both domestically and internationally, and enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens, and all of the pet dogs at home.

    On September 10, 1981 in Plymouth, Indiana he married the former Irma D. Kruger with whom he celebrated last month the thirty-fifth anniversary of their wedding.

    Surviving family includes his wife, Irma Reed; his daughter, Susan Renee (& Michael) McWilliams of Hawesville, Kentucky; and Irma's children, Kenneth Robert Beaudoin of Elkhart, Indiana, Karen Linn (& Michael) Corwin of Niles, and Karla Marlene (& JR) Meyer of Elkhart; grandchildren Sara (& Eric) Tener, Jess (& Jennifer) Fisher, Lance Beaudoin, Cindy Corwin, and Tina (& Brian) Westveer; six great-grandchildren; and Richard's siblings, Carolyn Kaiser of Niles, Robert Reed of Granger, Indiana, and William Reed of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Eby.

    The funeral for Richard Reed will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 31, 2016 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Joseph T. Liss of the church officiating. Committal will follow at Mission Hills in Niles.

    The family will receive relatives and friends from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
