    May 23, 1785. James Miller enters 78a by Treasury Warrant No. 10853 for 1000a dated 22 Feb 1782 joining his right of settlement on Wolf Creek. (surveyed). Also 37a by the above warrant joining his right of settlement on Indian Creek, a branch o f New River. Surveyed.

    May 23, 1785 Jacob Dowrin enters 45a per order from James Miller by the above warrrant for 1000a

    Aug. 19, 1785. James Millar enters 100a by virute of a Treasury Warrant for 1000a assigned him by Christopher Bryan, No. 10853, on the north side of Swobe's Knobs extending toward John Swobes including the Lewis Lone Lick on a branch of Wolf Cre ek for quantity. (Lifted for John Millar, Jr. Feb 19, 1794). Also 105a on the Indian Draft on the road leading from Indian Creek to Wolf Creek, to include a piece of meadow ground. Also 100a on the double of the mountain at a lick in the Indian Draft joining the Rich Branch.

    Aug 26, 1785. Also 106a by the above warrant on Stoney Creek between the road which leads from John Vanbibber and Kelly Cook's mill and an entry made by Harrell McDowell.

    Mar 21, 1786 Griffy Garton enters 380a on Swoob's Knobs between James Millars Senior and Wm. Meadows on the head of a branch of Indian Creek, by virtue of 1000a a part assigned him by James Millar, No. 10853.

    July 31, 1786. Joseph Swoobe enters 70a of land in Greenbrier Co., by order from John Swoobes by part of a warrant for 1000a No. 10853, in partnership with James Millar and Kincaid, joining his own land, David Jarrett, and Owen and Ellis on Laur el Creek, a branch of Wolf Creek.


    MARRIAGE BOND: VA (now WV); Greenbrier Co.; original in possession of Greenbrier Historical Society; photocopy in possession of Leslie Smith McConachie May 2005. Two pages, both handwritten, with what appear to be original signatures.

    Know all men by these presents that we Grifeth Garten & James Miller are held and firmly bound unto Edmond Randolph Esqr. governor of Virginia in the Just and full sum of fifty pounds to which payment well and Truly to be made toour said governo ur his Heirs or Successors so to bind ourselves our Heirs & C Jointly and severly formly by these presents seal with our seals and dated this 13th Sept 1787.
    The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Griffeth Garten has this day obtained licence to marry Hanna Miller if there be no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage then this obligation to be void else to remain i n full force & Virtue.Willam Garten SealJames Miller

Land is part of original survey dated 21 Sep 1802 an d lies in the northwest corner of James Miller's survey of 337a on Indian Creek, it being part of said survey joining where said Gartin now lives and for said Gartin.

    Monroe Deed Book D. Power of attorney dated 28 June, 1815 at Jacksborough, Tennessee by James Miller of Campbell County, Tennessee appointing Griffith Garten as his lawful attorney to act in his name in making title to Andrew and George Beirne o f Monroe County for a tract of 181a in Monroe County, it being part of a tract conveyed to James Miller, Jr. by his father, James Miller, Sr. It being also the land that said James Miller sold unto Nathaniel Garten.

    Monroe Deed Book D. Indenture 18 July, 1815 between James Miller and Elizabeth, his wife, of the county of Campbell, Tennessee, by Griffith Garten, their attorney in fact, on the one part, and Andrew and George Beirne of Monroe County of the oth er part. For one dollar James and Elizabeth Miller convey to Andrew and George Beirne 181a on Indian Creek, it being the same tract upon which Nathaniel Garten now lives and part of a parcel of land deeded to James Miller by James Miller Sr an d his wifeby deed dated 17 June, 1800. This deed conveyed to James Miller (then called James Miller Jr.) 211a (31a of the 211a was heretofore conveyed to Richard Garten) boundary's mention Halsted's and Maddy's lines.
