?tab?I Michael Kite considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory, do make and publish this my last will testament in ---- and form the following.
?tab?First having given my son George, during my life already fifty nine acres of land, as at considerable money. I hereby give and bequeath to him the further sum of fifty dollars.
?tab?Second Item. Whereas I have also at an earlier period of my life, deeded to my daughter Christina Kite, (now Simmons) sixty acres of land as her share of the inheritance and consider of her staying with me, to her and her heirs, only I do this day deed to her, Christina Simmons and to her assigns ----- -----, without reservations this said sixty acres of land, by a new and absolute deed considering this her full share, I bequeath to her the said Christina Simmons, formerly Kite, on the further sum of ten dollars.

Having at this date yet one hundred and forty acres of land, lying and being in the Town of Eagle, County of Richland, and State of Wisconsin, as also other personal property and money. Biography of GEORGE KITE. George Kite is a member of one of the pioneer families of Richland county and is numbered among the successful and prominent farmers of Richwood township. He was born in the town of Eagle, this county, Mar. 24, 1859, an d is a son of George and Sarah Ann (Myers) Kite, the former of whom was born in Champaign county, O., in 1822, and the latter in Marion county, Ind., in 1829. Their marriage was celebrated in the latter county, in 1848, and they continued to reside in the Hoosier State until 1857, when they came to Wisconsin and settled in Eagle township, Richland county, where the father bought eighty acres of wild land, to which he subsequently added forty acres, here developing a good farm and remai ning on the old homestead until his death, in October, 1822. He wife is still living on the old homestead. Of their nine children five are living. He was a Republican in politics and was a member of the town board for a number of years, having s erved as chairman of the same for several terms. He and his wife were devoted members of United Brethren church, in which he was ordained a minister when but twenty years of age. He made farming his vocation but exercised his clerical functions , having been one of the pioneer clergymen of his church in the county. He was a son of Michael and Catherine (Tofflemeier) Kite, the former of whom was born in Virginia, and the later in Ohio. She died near Terre Haute, Ind., having been commun icant of the Catholic church. Michael Kite came to Richland county about 1853, settling in Eagle township, where he passed the residue of his life, having been eighty ears of age at the time of his death. The maternal grandparents of the subjec t of this review were William and Massie (Conner) Myers, the former of whom was born in Virginia and the later in Indiana. George Kite, the immediate subject of this sketch, was reared on the home farm of his parents and is indebted to the distr ict schools for his early educational discipline. He is now the owner of a well improved farm of eighty acres, and devotes his attention to general agriculture and stock-raising. He maintains a liberal and public-spirited attitude as a citizen a nd his political support is given to the Republican party. In June, 1885, Mr. Kite was united in marriage to Miss Effie Hofius, a daughter of James W. Hofius, of whom individual mention is made in these columns. They became the parents of seve n children: Andrew and Grace died in childhood and the third child died in infancy. Flossie was the next in order of birth; Carrie is deceased, and the two youngest children are Tressie and Ruth.

After the death of Joseph, Sarah worked as a housekeeper. She also sold off lots in the town of Argos, which were left to her by late husbands estate. The last land record found on Sarah (Kite) Rhodes was
on 17 Nov 1873, when she sold land in the town of Argos (recorded in Deed Book 8 pg. 395 in the Marshall County Courthouse at Pymouth IN).
Her remaning property was later seized by the county sheriff and sold for deliquent taxes.

Volunteers. He was drafted Jan. 5, 1865 at Laporte Indiana. Military
record state he was drafted he was age 31, had gray eyes, brown hair
was 5 ft. 9 3/4 in. tall he had a fair complexion. It stated on his
discharge he was born in Champaign County OH and was a farmer by trade.
He got Musterd out on July 17 1865 ( this infomation obtained from
the Indaina State Archives). An obit. in the Plymouth Tribune,

Jason D. Rhodes was born on 3 May 1834 in Urbana, Champaign County, OH. He died on 7 Jul 1909 in Kokomo, Howard County, IN. He was buried in Crown Point Cem., Kokomo, Howard County, IN. Served in the Civil War in Company F of the 89 Regimen t of Indiana
Volunteers. He enlisted at Howard County, IN, Aug 15, 1862, his military
recorded states he was at the age of 26 at time of enlistment. His
discharge said he had gray eyes, light hair, dark complexion, was
farmer by trade and was born in OH. He was Mustered out of service at
Mobile Ala. July 19 1865 (information from the Indiana State Archives).

to his dicharge he enlisted Jan. 15, 1862 in Marshall County IN, at the

and complexion, and stated he was born in Boone County IN (information
from the Indiana State Archives). According to his obit. in the
Bourbon Advance (Bourbon, Marshall County, IN) Apr. 18, 1906, Joseph R.
Rhodes was apparently murdered.

A Civil War veteran of Company D, 73rd Indiana Infantry & Company E, 29th Indiana Infantry.

Michael enlisted August 7, 1862, at Plymouth, Marshall County, Indiana, to serve three years in the 73rd Indiana Infantry. On August 16, 1862, he received $25.00 of his $100.00 enlistment bounty and was mustered into Federal service with Compan y D at South Bend, Indiana. At that time he was listed as a 17 years old, 5'9" tall farmer, with brown hair, black eyes and a dark complexion, born in Boone County, Indiana.
On the muster roll of Nov./Dec., 1862, it was noted that Michael was absent in Convalescent Barracks, Gallatin, Tennessee. On February 1, 1963, he was discharged under a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability, at that location because of phithise s pulmonalis and was not entitled to a pension. On his discharge it was noted that he could be contacted at Argos, Marshall County, Indiana.

After his discharge, Michael returned to his home at Argos, Indiana, and apparently recovered his health, as on July 18, 1863, he enlisted at Plymouth, Indiana, to serve three years as a Private in the 73rd Indiana Infantry. On July 18, 1863, h e was mustered into Federal service with Company D at Indianapolis, Indiana. At that time he was listed as a 19 years old, 5'9" tall farmer, with brown hair, gray eyes and a dark complexion, born in Boone County, Indiana.
On July 1, 1865, Company D of the 73rd Indiana Infantry was mustered out of Federal service at Nashville, Tennessee. On the muster out roll it was noted that Michael was due $75.00 of his enlistment bounty, that no discharge had been furnished , and he was to be retained for unexpired term of his enlistment. On August 31, 1865, he was transferred to Company E of the 29th Indiana Infantry, in accordance with S.O. No. 9, Headquarters Military Division Tennessee at Nashville. On Decembe r 2, 1865, he was mustered out of Federal service with Company E at Marietta, Georgia. It was later determined that no discharge papers were given at the muster out of that organization.
